Managing Daily Stress

Stress is something that every single person deals with. It means that you’re alive! A small dose of stress is good for you but large amounts of stress over time are not good for you. That is why it is essential to stay on top of managing your stress so it doesn’t consume you.

Stress can have negative side effects both physically and mentally. Some physical side effects are: headache, weight gain or loss, trouble sleeping, low energy, tense muscles or aches, getting sick often and perhaps even vomiting. Helpful Tools to Deal With Stress

Everyone manages their stress differently, or not at all, so how you deal with stress might look different than a loved one or a colleague. You might have to get creative and try different ways to manage stress, depending on what you have going on in your life.

Meditate

You don’t need to get fancy with it! There are several different options you can choose from. Sit with your eyes closed, follow along with a youtube video or app on your phone or any other creative ideas you may have.

Take a walk

Whether by yourself or with someone else, going on a walk is a great way to relieve stress from your day. If that is not an option, due to weather or safety in your neighborhood, then it might be best to find a different method of stress management.

Do something you enjoy

Think about what types of activities you enjoy doing. If you don’t feel like doing anything on that list, then let’s choose something new! Even if you feel like you don’t have time, set aside 20 minutes at the end of your day or during any pockets of time, like driving to the store or running errands.

Drink water

Water is multi-beneficial for helping your overall health! Oftentimes when you feel stressed, it could be your body telling you that you need water. Water can help your mind and allow you to think clearly.

Take a mental break

If you find that you’re getting brain fog because you’ve been working too hard on a project, it’s probably time to take a break! There is no shame in taking breaks–it’ll actually help you be more productive. Focusing on a task with no distractions and then taking periodic breaks is one of the most effective ways to get projects done.

Take a shower or bath

Only use this suggestion if showering or bathing is relaxing for you. For some people, it can be very stressful and that’s what we want to avoid. If you’re feeling anxious, take a warm shower and if you’re feeling depressed, take a cold shower.

Sleep

It’s safe to say that sleep is the answer to most issues. Having consistent sleep is very important to your health and overall well-being. There’s a reason that our bodies need sleep on a daily basis.
