Being a single mom is not easy, especially when you are dealing with a moody 18-year-old boy that does whatever he wants. I have to be prepared for everything: from finding a power rack with lat pulldown to preparing protein shakes at 2 am.
How are those two things related? Well, you see, my son has been passionate about working out even since the pandemic started. As his parent, I wanted to give him an environment where he could develop and grow, both physically and mentally, so that’s how I found myself buying all sorts of gym equipment and installing it into our garage.
At first, I didn’t plan on working out too, but then I stumbled upon some training videos, and that’s how reality hit me – I have all this equipment in my house, why not use them?
Out of all equipment that I have bought, the power rack is the one that I enjoy the most! It is simple, easy to use, it doesn’t take up much space and it is one of the fitness equipment that I can easily use in all of my workouts to train all the muscles!
So, what is a power rack – you might ask. A power rack is weight training fitness equipment that helps you lift weights without needing another person to assist you. You can also learn how to correctly use a barbell and how to correct your posture while working out this way, but for this, I strongly suggest you purchase a big mirror, too!
My son asked me to get a power rack for him and I, as every responsible parent should, made sure that this kind of equipment is safe to use. It turns out it’s not only safe – it also reduces the chances of getting hurt by falling weights to 0. The power rack is built to make you stand in the correct posture while working out and it is a nice asset to have especially when you are at the beginning of your journey to a healthier lifestyle!
We got a standard power rack and it allows us to do some pull-up and pulldown-related exercises. This is a big asset for me, too, since I am a woman in her 40s and I didn’t think I would be able to work out like I used to do. This power rack also works for free weight workout routines.

First of all, keep in mind the shape that you want your power rack to have. You will find a variety of power racks – full cage one, half cage, or squat stand – these are some of the options you can choose from. We got a half cage one since my son likes to do some intricate workouts that need this type of power rack.
Then, be sure to choose the right pull-up bar for your workouts – we chose a straight pull-up bar with a wide range of grip widths, so we both can use it safely. It includes two pairs of J-hooks and a set of safety catchers, so your weights won’t easily slide off the pull-up bar.
The last thing that I had in mind while shopping for a power rack was the warranty certificate. As a single mom, I cannot handle any kind of repairs that this power rack could need, so an extended warranty certificate was the one thing I was looking for!
When our power rack came home, I tried to assemble it on my own. Needless to say, I did an amazing job, but it surely wasn’t because of how skilled I am but because this power rack was already semi-assembled when it got delivered. Words cannot explain how relieved I felt when I saw the size of the box!
All in all, I have to admit that having a mini gym in our garage at home is a lot more fun than it sounds! I can save precious time and money by working out at home and my son has never been healthier and happier than he is right now! In the long run, I can even dare to say that we ended up saving money by purchasing this magnificent power rack!
