Vietnam based artist Eisen Bernard V. Bernardo added Pop Stars images in his collages to increase awareness regarding vaccination of COVID-19. He did this by mixing pop albums cover with person getting vaccination. The results are so humorous and amazing that you can’t stop yourself in liking these images.
We have reached him to know more about his inspiration. Here what he had to say.

How did you find your style? Has it changed since you started?
I started doing digital collages as early as 2009.
I’m fond of homage, similarities and references in movies, music, and other art forms. Like the Mag+Art and Album+Art collage series, I just felt that magazine and album covers (like other contemporary artforms) were inspired directly (and/or indirectly) by classical paintings. The similarities and references can be observed. I just really wanted to compare and contrast modern and classical aesthetics.
Before, I just juxtaposed the contemporary covers and the classical artworks in purely visual terms. I only considered key factors such as the matching color palettes and identical/complementing body parts/movements.
But when I got some feedback that my work is filled with humor and irony, I also considered the meaning/message of my collages. So, when I came up with the Mag+Art and Album+Art images, I tried to look for covers and paintings that can produce visual puns or can establish more meaningful connections (not only on the visual but on the conceptual level). I just wanted every piece to evoke a humorous or fascinating effect on the viewer.
What inspires you to create these amazing art work?
I am heavily inspired by pop artists like Andy Warhol and also celebrity culture (including movie stars and musical artists of our time).

How do you come up with new ideas? Do you have a process?
I don’t have formal training as an artist; I don’t have a degree in fine arts. But I think I’m part of the digital era where people can freely express themselves using different art forms. Social media makes it easier for someone like me to be noticed. We all know that the art world is an elite arena. But the social media/internet democratized it and made it more accessible for everyone.
Most Challenging Aspect that comes through your work?
After having several viral works, I stopped doing similar kinds of art. Since the pandemic, I started to explore more of my personal narratives (struggles, traumas, etc) through my art, in order for me to understand myself more. But recently, I made pop stars get ‘vaccinated’ in my digital collages. This is to increase awareness and conversations regarding vaccination against Covid-19. So, I did I by combining pop album/single covers with vaccination photos. The results are funny and tongue-in-cheek collages.
